Oum Kalthoum Ben Hassine is a Professor of Biology at the University of Tunis and Director of the Research Unit of Biology, Ecology and Parasitology of Aquatic Organisms which consists of 55 researchers and PhD students. Dr Oum Kalthoum holds a Scientific Baccalaureate, License in Natural Sciences, Advanced Studies Diploma in Marine Biology and Oceanography, and Doctorate of specialty in Marine Biology and Oceanography & Doctorate d’état ès Sciences.  She is the author of many publications in international scientific journals and of many presentations at national, regional and international congresses.

Dr. Oum Kalthoum supervised many Masters and PhD students, is a member of numerous commissions on scientific research, agriculture, sustainable development & women in sciences. She is the coordinator of the Masters in “Integrative Biology of Coastal Ecosystems,” president of the Tunisian association of “Women and Sciences,” member of the network for the advancement and education of women scholars in the Mediterranean basin in the field of science and biotechnology. Oum Kalthoum received the “Mérite de l’Education et des Sciences” award in 2000 and 2008, and the Certificate for exceptional volunteer services, United Nations in 2001. She is a member of the European Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters.

- Professor of Biology at the University of Tunis and Director of the research unit of “Biology Ecology and Parasitology of Aquatic Organisms” which consists of 55 researchers and Ph.D students.

- Holder of Scientific Baccalaureate, Licence in Natural Sciences, Advances Studies Diploma in Marine Biology and Oceanography, Doctorate in Marine Biology and Oceanography.

- Holder of Higher degree (Doctorat d’Etat ès Sciences) in Marine Biology, University of Montpellier.

- Researcher at CNRS (1979-1980) and associated Professor at the University of Montpellier (1980-1983).

- Author of many publications in International Scientific Revues and of many communications presented in national, regional and International Congresses.

- Scientific supervisor of many scientific subjects of Advances Studies Diploma, Master, and PhD thesis.

- Member of numerous reflexion commissions on scientific research, agriculture, sustainable development & women in sciences.

- Coordinator of the master of “Integrative Biology of Coastal Ecosystems".

- President of the Tunisian association “Women and Sciences”.

- Member of the network for the advancement and education of women scholars in the Mediterranean basin in field of science and biotechnology.

- Recipient of the “Mérite de l’Education et des Sciences” decoration, 2000 & 2008, and the Certificate for exceptional volunteer services, United Nations, 2001.
