Researcher, Yemen

Prof. Rokhsana Ismail attained her PhD in Chemistry from Lvov Polytechnic Institute in Ukrania. Professor Ismail has more than 15 years of experience in management and leadership of integrated applied research projects related to various fields of science and she has more than 12 years of experience in management and leadership in integrating Gender Research for Development into curriculum.  Prof.  Ismail established Woman’s Research & Training Center – Aden University WRTC and the Yemeni Chemical Society as well as Yemeni Women Association for Science and Technology. During the period 1995-1998, Professor Ismail worked as the Director of Scientific Research Dept. at Aden University and from 1998 until May 2010 she worked for the Woman’s Research & Training Center – Aden University (WRTC).  In addition Prof. Ismail was appointed as Head of Arab Union for Chemists during the period 1999-2000. Since May 2010 she was appointed as the Director of Science & Technology Center at Aden University.  
In her capacity as Director for WRTC she lead and managed a one million EUR project supported by NUFFIC to strengthen (WRTC), was responsible for research related to gender and Development, and  established a Referee Journal for Gender and Development, the first referee journal issued by a governmental Arab university. She was the edditor in chief of the journal during the period 2007-2010.
Prof. Ismail was elected as the vice President of the Third World Organization for Women in Science for the Arab Region, during the period 2005 – 2010, and as an Executive Board member for the Arab Region for the period 2010-2014.

  • Award from NWC for excellent work and activities related to women.
  • Silver Medal for excellent work and activities related to women and science at Aden University.

She published many scientific papers regarding Science and Technology and Environment in addition to her publications in the area of gender research. Furhter more, Prof. Rokhsana attended and participated in a various, national, regional and international conferences. 
She is now part of “GRACE- MENA” network and continuing the work on a research project supported by the IDRC highlighting ICT and gender issues in the MENA region.
